As more and more young people interface with the judicial system, managing those with mental illness can prove challenging from a clinical standpoint. For that reason, Rescue provides on-site mental health services at the Lucas County Juvenile Detention Center (JDC).
Rescue assists detainees who are in crisis or who have an established mental health disorder. Client referrals come from the medical clinic, probation department, judges or magistrates, JDC staff, and individual detainees.
Rescue’s licensed clinicians assess clients and develop behavioral plans as needed. When appropriate, Rescue connects clients not already connected to mental health services with outpatient providers. For those needing medication management, Rescue makes appointments with the clients’ established physicians.
Rescue has mental health professionals at JDC from noon to 6:30 p.m., seven days a week, excluding certain holidays. Clinicians see clients anywhere from twice a week to daily.
